Moira Shire Council today appointed the Independent Administrator John Tanner AM to fill the vacancies on five shire committees following the dismissal of the former Council earlier this month.
Mr. Tanner has been appointed to the Moira Shire Council All Abilities Advisory Committee, the Murray River Group of Councils, the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation Board, the Moira Shire Council CEO Employment and Remuneration Advisory Council, and the Moira Shire Council Audit and Risk Committee.
Mr Tanner said he looked forward to working with the members of all the committees and contributing to their effective management of the matters before them.
Under the appointments, Mr. Tanner fulfils the role of the Moira Shire Council, including the Mayor and Councillors.
"These appointments will enable a number of the issues raised in the Commission of Inquiry to be addressed," he said.
Mr. Tanner was appointed as an interim Independent Administrator of the Council by the Victorian
Parliament for a period of three months following a Commission of Inquiry into the affairs of the Council and the subsequent tabling of its report in Parliament.
Three Permanent Administrators will be appointed for five years before Council elections in 2028.
The Council also today extended the appointment of the Council's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Joshua Lewis, for a period of up to 28 days from 1 April.
Mr. Tanner commended Mr. Lewis on the role he had fulfilled since being appointed to the position on March 10, following the CEO Clare Keenan taking leave of absence.
"Mr Lewis has demonstrated excellent leadership and commitment over the last 22 days since taking on the role in difficult circumstances," added Mr. Tanner.
