Monash, Delhi Metro Unite for Rail Tech Advancement

Professor Ravi Ravitharan, Director of Monash Institute of Railway Technology, and the Company Secretary of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited, signed an MoU today alongside Mr Nathan Davis, Trade and Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission South Asia, to cooperate in advancing research and training activities in railway engineering, specifically focusing on metro railways.

Professor Ravi Ravitharan, said the partnership aims to develop innovative solutions that will directly benefit the metro railway industry in India. Both parties will also collaborate on competency building activities in the field of railway technology for urban transport networks.

"This partnership is a gamechanger for the metro rail industry in India. Monash IRT continues to lead the way in advancing urban mass transit technologies, ensuring greater efficiency, enhanced safety, and cost-effective solutions for cities worldwide," Professor Ravitharan said.

"As urban centres expand, and the demand for reliable public transportation grows, Monash IRT remains at the forefront of developing breakthrough innovations that streamline operations and improve passenger experiences."

The Delhi Metro, is one of the most extensive and modern metro systems in India, with an operating network spanning 394 Kilometres and serving millions of passengers daily. It has played a crucial role in improving urban transportation in Delhi and has been recognised for its efficiency, reliability and environmental sustainability.

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson, said the collaboration will foster industry-driven research that will result in practical applications and advancements in metro railway engineering, greater operational excellence, competency building of the workforce, and long-term sustainability.

"Under this MoU, Monash IRT, DMRC, and its Academy, will jointly identify and collaborate on various areas of common interest for study, analysis, and capacity building for the metro rail sector in India," the spokesperson said.

Professor Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Senior Vice-President at Monash University, said this partnership represents an expansion of Monash's involvement with India, building on the foundation established through its collaboration with IITB on the IITB-Monash Research Academy.

"Industry and government are critical partners and collaborators for Monash in advancing our shared education, research and global impact objectives," said Professor Jeffrey.

"Monash will continue to build partnerships with top Indian corporations and key government organisations to enhance innovation."
