Monash Pound Facility Update

From 1 August 2025, Council's pound facility for cats, dogs and livestock will move from the RSPCA in Burwood to Animal Aid in Coldstream.

The move was determined by the RSPCA's change in business model when Council was advised the RSPCA would no longer be providing pound facilities to Victorian councils.

Council was required to tender for a new facility. Following the public tender process, Animal Aid was awarded the contract.

This decision was endorsed at the 29 April Council meeting: Animal Pound and After Hours Services.

From 1 August 2025, if your animal is found wandering, is picked up by Council officers and can't be reunited using registration or microchip information, it will be taken to Animal Aid and cared for until you are able to collect them.

Council's preference is always to reunite pets directly with their owners as quickly as possible, and the easiest way to help us do this is to register your dog or cat and make sure your details are up to date.

Animal Aid, located at 35 Killara Road, Coldstream, offers a purpose-built, professional shelter, complete with a cattery, dog kennels, veterinary clinic, pet boarding, grooming services and dog training. With more than 50 years of experience in animal welfare, Animal Aid brings a wealth of knowledge and care to its work with both animals and the community.

Council officers welcome this important new partnership.

We thank the RSPCA for more than 20 years of service to Monash Council and our pet owners.

Animal owners will receive more information on the move in the lead-up to 1 August.
