Kingston Council has endorsed a staged approach to improving pedestrian and cycling connectivity in Mordialloc, reinforcing its ongoing advocacy for better links through the precinct following the closure of the former pedestrian underpass near Mordialloc Creek.
The approach includes continued advocacy and targeted planning to improve connections between the Mordialloc activity centre, surrounding neighbourhoods, open spaces and the foreshore, including further investigation of a shared user path overpass across Nepean Highway.
The former underpass, located adjacent to the rail stabling yard at Mordialloc Creek, was permanently closed in August 2025 as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project.
Mayor Georgina Oxley said Council understood the impact the closure had on the community and remained focused on practical solutions to improve connectivity in the area.
"Council will continue advocating strongly for improved pedestrian and cycling links through the Mordialloc precinct and we welcome further opportunities to work with the State Government on practical solutions," Cr Oxley said.
"We want to see safer, more accessible connections that support people moving between the town centre, neighbourhoods, open spaces and the foreshore.
Council's endorsed approach includes a targeted review of the existing Mordialloc Creek Masterplan to identify practical and deliverable connectivity improvements, while recognising the complexity of the creek corridor environment, which involves multiple land managers, environmental considerations and major transport infrastructure.
