More than 200 new citizens welcomed on National Citizenship Day

The Mayor of The Hills Shire, Mayor Peter Gangemi, has welcomed more than 200 new Australian citizens during special ceremonies on National Citizenship Day on Saturday, September 17.

The day was an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the meaning and importance of Australian citizenship and their responsibilities and privileges as citizens.

During the ceremonies, 217 new citizens were welcomed into The Hills Shire community, with people coming from nations including India, China, South Africa, Serbia, Sweden, Zimbabwe and more.

Mayor Gangemi, who officiated the proceedings, said it was a "pleasure to gather with the newest members of our ever-growing Hills Shire community".

"I'm honoured to welcome our newest Australian Citizens and be part of such a significant day," Mayor Gangemi said.

"I would personally like to congratulate and welcome our newest citizens and wish them all the very best."

"The Hills is the best part of the world, and we thank our newest citizens for making our story here even greater," he added.
