Council has partnered with the Victorian Government to deliver new LED lighting at Cockatoo's Recreation Reserve, creating a brighter and more accessible space for local clubs and the wider community.
Mountain Road Recreation Reserve has been fitted with new 100lux LED lighting, bringing the oval up to current standards and allowing local clubs to train and compete with greater flexibility throughout the year.
At a celebration event acknowledging the completion of works, Cardinia Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Brett Owen said the upgrades are an important investment in local sport for the Cockatoo community.
"Upgrade projects like this create more opportunities for our community to get involved in sport and active recreation. Better lighting means more training hours and safer playing conditions to support out community's sporting needs now and into the future" he says.
"The new LED system also delivers long-term environmental benefits, including greater energy efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements."
The project was made possible with $125,000 in funding from the Victorian Government's Country Football and Netball Program through Sport and Recreation Victoria, alongside a $120,607 contribution from Cardinia Shire Council.
"We're proud to partner with the Victorian Government to deliver upgrades that directly support local clubs and families who use these facilities every week," Mayor Owen said.
Mountain Road Recreation Reserve offers a variety of facilities for football, archery, cricket, netball and athletics, as well as in indoor sports stadium.
