Ms Leonie Palmer OAM to be Posthumously Invested in the Order of Australia

At the direction of His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O'Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory, will posthumously invest Ms Leonie Palmer OAM, in her home community of Alice Springs, amongst family and friends.

Ms Palmer, who passed away earlier this year, received this Honour in recognition of her significant service to the Indigenous community of Alice Springs. She was as an advocate for improving educational opportunities for young people and the preservation of culture.

Ms Palmer was a Founding Member and Director of Children's Ground, a community organisation focused on First Nations and homeland learning. She was a dedicated Yipirinya School Council member and a former Institute for Aboriginal Development Director. Ms Palmer was a member of the Santa Teresa Health Centre, a Founding Member of both the Central Australian Aboriginal Alcohol Programmes Unit and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a Founding Member and Board Member of Ingkerreke Outstations Resource Services Aboriginal Corporation.
