Murdoch University students will have access to a whole new study experience this semester, with the opening of its newest teaching building - Boola Katitjin.
Noongar for 'lots of learning', Boola Katitjin combines modern, sustainable design and digital technology to deliver a world-class student experience.
Speaking at the opening of the building, International Education Minister David Templeman congratulated Murdoch University on achieving its vision for Boola Katitjin and said the transformational building was a boost for Western Australia's reputation as a destination of choice for international students.
Up to 60 per cent of classes will be taught in the new building, which will showcase the future of tertiary education by blending in-person and online learning through state-of-the-art technology.
At 180 metres long and four stories high with 16,000 square kilometres of flexible learning spaces, Boola Katitjin is the largest mass engineered timber building in WA and the largest on any Australian university campus.
As stated by International Education Minister David Templeman:
"Today at the opening of Murdoch University's newest teaching building Boola Katitjin we saw what the future of tertiary education looks like here in WA and globally.
"As a former teacher, I am excited to see state-of-the art technology like augmented reality and virtual reality being incorporated into learning.
"We know that one of the best ways we can promote the State as a destination of choice for international students is to offer a world-class experience that is unique to WA."
As stated by Education and Aboriginal Affairs Minister Tony Buti:
"This is a beautiful new building and it is fantastic to see the Noongar name for 'lots of learning' being celebrated in this way.
"As the name suggests, I am sure students will appreciate this state-of-the-art facility and all that it offers."
