NAFA favourite joins headline acts for 2022

The North Australian Festival of Arts is proud to announce its headline acts for 2022, including free concerts and a festival favourite's return.

Townsville's favourite cabaret artist Bernie Dieter is back with her brand-new show Club Kabarett, which will be just one of more than 500 shows performed at NAFA 2022.

Locals will be able to get amongst the action at free concerts this year, with Dragon taking the stage on 1 July, Boy and Bear on 3 July and Dance Tropics Dance on 9 July.

Jezzine Barracks will transform into the NAFA Festival Hub for the four weeks of action, with food vendors and the all-new Garden Bar making the hub the hottest place for after work catch ups or a night out.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said NAFA was set to bring thousands of visitors to Townsville.

"NAFA is an award-winning festival that brings the best of Australia's arts and culture scene to the heart of North Queensland," Cr Hill said.

"Having huge acts like Bernie Dieter in Townsville is a drawcard to entice travellers to Townsville from across the country.

"The economic boost that NAFA provides will not only be felt directly by artists taking part in NAFA but also by hotels, motels, restaurants, cafes, and tourism experience providers. The flow-on effect from NAFA is significant and is always well-received by local business owners."

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the four-week event was unmissable.

"I can't wait to head along to as many shows as possible during NAFA," Cr Greaney said.

"Because there are so many incredible acts and shows across the four weeks of NAFA, I would recommend taking a look at the NAFA website and booking tickets early to avoid disappointment."

NAFA is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It's Live! In Queensland events calendar.

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the big line up of music acts would make Townsville the place to be.

"NAFA has become a big success in Townsville since it began in 2019. It originated from the Commonwealth Games Townsville Festival 2018 and has become a hugely successful event," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"It's fantastic to see NAFA continue to grow with more arts, culture and entertainment experiences for 2022."

NAFA runs from 10 June to 10 July 2022.
