Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Applications are now open for the National Science Week 2026 grants.

Funding aims to foster a deeper appreciation of science and technology by supporting a range of diverse activities. These can include:

  • in-person activities such as workshops, fairs and theatre
  • online activities with two-way audience participation
  • do-it-yourself (DIY) activities
  • virtual tours
  • other events and activities.

National Science Week is Australia's annual celebration of science and technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Running each year in August, it plays a central role in the Australian Government's approach to science engagement and inspiring Australians to pursue careers in STEM.

This year's event featured over 2,550 events, showcasing the creativity and passion for STEM across Australia. In 2026 it will run from 15-23 August.

We fund these grants under the Inspiring Australia Science Engagement Program. There is $500,000 in funding available each year.
