Mount Martha's Citation Recreation Reserve is now home to a new, state-of-the-art sporting pavilion.

The facility was officially opened on Sunday 28 April when Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill, Briars Ward Councillors Bev Colomb and Rosie Clark joined members of the South Mornington Junior Football Club and South Mornington Football Club along with former Councillors to mark the occasion.

The new, single level pavilion, which has been designed to better meet the needs of local sporting and community groups, includes:

  • a modern social room
  • multi-purpose change rooms
  • unisex toilet and shower facilities
  • office space and store rooms
  • kitchen/kiosk
  • first aid room
  • accessible toilets and external public toilets
  • enhanced car park area
  • landscaping and pathways.

The new building has been sustainably designed with low-energy lighting, heating and cooling specifically tailored to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Water savings will be achieved through the use of water efficient fittings and fixtures.

Mayor Gill said "the pavilion is a great space for the sporting community of Mount Martha and I'm sure our local clubs will be proud to call it home.

"It was fantastic to officially open the pavilion along with the clubs and join in the buzz of game day".

Briars Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor Rosie Clark said "we're working to increase sport, recreation and leisure opportunities, encourage participation and better connect our sporting communities".

Briars Ward Councillor Bev Colomb said "this project was an essential part of the Shire's commitment to making it easier for everyone to play local sport".

Briars Ward Councillor Sam Hearn said "I know the whole local community, including my old football club South Mornington, will enjoy the new pavilion for many seasons to come".
