New $7.9m Moama Police Station Officially Opens

The $7.9 million Moama Police Station in the Murray River Police District officially opened this morning (Wednesday 1 April 2026), providing a fit-for-purpose station to service the Murray and surrounds.

Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley joined NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon APM, Mrs Helen Dalton MP, Member for Murray, Southern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Darren Brand APM and Murray River Police District Commander Superintendent Paul Smith APM, to officially unveil the new station.

The new, state-of-the-art facility includes a public front counter, custody area including van dock, detectives' area, task force room, state of the art CCTV, command offices, storage areas, staff amenities, and meal room. It has been designed to support policing responses for the growing Moama and surrounding communities.

Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said officers deserve facilities that match the job they do and this station gives local police the tools and support they need to keep the community safe, as Moama grows.

"This $7.9 million investment is about backing Moama with a station built for the future that strengthens frontline policing and helps officers respond when people need them most.

"A year ago, I came to this region to listen and hear directly from locals about what needed to change and we've acted. More officers, stronger policing on the ground and today, a new station for this community."

The new station will serve as a central policing hub and accommodate policing resources in the area, including general duties officers and Traffic and Highway Patrol officers.

The modern facility replaces the close to century-old police station on Maiden Street, Moama - which officers have worked from for more than 30 years.

The facility is able to accommodate other policing resources when needed such as Detectives and other specialist officers including Domestic Violence officers, and Police Prosecutors.

The new Moama Police Station includes:

  • Public front counter
  • Command and administration offices
  • General Duty & Duty Rooms
  • Custody area with van dock
  • Storage area
  • Meal room, lockers, and staff amenities
  • State-of-the-art CCTV and internal and external security
  • Traffic and Highway Patrol offices
  • Off street parking for police vehicles

Commissioner Mal Lanyon was pleased to visit the Murray District and officially open the new Moama Police Station – a facility which will serve the community for years to come.

"Regardless of where our officers serve across the state, it is essential they have access to the best facilities available, and facilities that not only meet the needs of the community but also provide the necessary support for our frontline officers."

"And this modern policing facility is a significant investment in strengthening community safety in and around Moama, by improving police capability to be able to disrupt and respond to crime, deal with emergencies and meet community needs.

"It is a privilege to not only be here to support our police, but to also connect with those we serve,"

Construction began on the police station in 2025, and the Moama Police Station was handed to police at the end of last year and has been operational since January 2026.
