New Ballarat Station Overpass Now Open

VIC Premier

Labor has opened Ballarat Station's new pedestrian overpass.

It will deliver safer, more accessible and easier journeys for passengers.

It features stair and lift access to each platform, ensuring people with disability, luggage or prams can cross the rail line safely and conveniently.

At 28 metres long, the overpass is wide enough for two wheelchairs or mobility scooters to pass each other, improving access for people with mobility needs.

This now completes the Ballarat Station Upgrade, making it easier for passengers to move between platforms without leaving the station.

The overpass design was developed in consultation with disability and heritage advocacy groups and reflects the community's preference for a design that honours the station's heritage while improving accessibility.

Its aluminium cladding features curved elements inspired by the station's historic ironwork, along with a perforated design that improves visibility and provides protection from the weather.

Open balconies with glass balustrades at the lift landings provide views of the station's iconic clock tower and train hall, creating a more welcoming and user-friendly space.

Accessibility upgrades to the station's northern entrance were completed last year, including a new ramp, stairs, handrails and an automatic door to improve access for all passengers.
