The Western Australian Government has appointed Ms Neema Premji as the new Chair of the Vasse Taskforce.

Ms Premji brings more than 25 years of experience as an independent Chair across a broad range of sectors including infrastructure, utilities, and mining.

With a professional background in civil engineering, Ms Premji offers significant expertise in the infrastructure, water, power, mining, and transport industries, along with a strong understanding of planning and governance at Federal, State, and local government levels.

As Chair, Ms Premji will lead the next phase of work for the Vasse Taskforce, which plays a key role in managing the health of the Geographe waterways.

Her leadership will help shape the future direction of waterway management, following a decade of achievements by the Taskforce.

The Vasse Taskforce oversees the Revitalising Geographe Waterways (RGW) program, a State Government-funded initiative under the Healthy Estuaries WA program. RGW focuses on improving water quality and the ecological health of the Geographe catchment.

The Taskforce works collaboratively with government agencies, scientists, and the community, addressing long-term water quality challenges caused by elevated phosphorus and nitrogen levels from urban and agricultural sources.

Ms Premji's appointment marks a new chapter for the Vasse Taskforce as it continues its important work protecting important water assets in one of the State's fastest growing regions.

As stated by Water Minister Don Punch:

"I congratulate Neema Premji on her appointment as Chair of the Vasse Taskforce. Her drive and dedication to achieving positive outcomes will be a valuable asset in guiding the management of the Geographe waterways.

"I also extend my sincere thanks to outgoing Chair Hon Pierre Yang for his leadership and professionalism during his time with the Taskforce since 2023.

"I look forward to the continued success of the Vasse Taskforce in its important role overseeing water quality management across the Geographe catchment."

As stated by incoming chair Neema Premji:

"I'm honoured to take on this important role leading the Vasse Taskforce, which plays a vital part in protecting and managing the health of the Geographe waterways.

"As Chair, I'm committed to building on the strong foundations established by Pierre Yang and ensuring the Taskforce remains proactive in addressing the ongoing challenges of improving and safeguarding these valuable natural assets for the community."
