Central Ward councillor Shweta Deshpande was voted City of Ryde's Deputy Mayor during an open vote held at the 22 September 2026 ordinary Council meeting.
Clr Deshpande, who served a previous term as Deputy Mayor in 2023, will remain in the role until September 2027.
As a leader and strategic marketer within the pharmaceutical industry, Clr Deshpande has won innovation awards for lateral thinking and providing solutions to effectively manage cross-functional teams.
She holds an MBA and an undergraduate degree in English Literature.
Clr Deshpande said she was honoured to be elected City of Ryde Deputy Mayor for a second time.
"It's an exciting time for the City of Ryde community and I will be working collaboratively with our Mayor, fellow councillors and staff to build a vibrant and sustainable City that is fit for purpose not only for this generation but beyond," Clr Deshpande said.
City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown congratulated Clr Deshpande on her election.
"It is a great privilege to have Clr Deshpande serving as Deputy Mayor and I look forward to working together over the next 12 months on behalf of our wonderful and diverse community," he said.
"Clr Deshpande's strategic thinking and leadership skills are a great asset to this Council and our City. She has already achieved a significant amount since joining Council in 2021 and her election as Deputy Mayor strengthens us significantly."
