  • Cook Government fostering a vibrant and creative community

The Cook Government is continuing to support local sport and recreation with the official opening of a new riverfront green space at Swan Yacht Club, celebrated during the club's recent community open day.

Supported by a $150,000 Cook Government election commitment, the project has transformed the former sailing slipway into a vibrant multi-use green space overlooking the Swan River.

The revitalised precinct will support a wide range of community and commercial activities including outdoor markets, live music, corporate functions, weddings, and private events.

Environmental improvements were also delivered as part of the project, with new planting zones and the reinstatement of native vegetation helping enhance the riverfront landscape while reducing the club's environmental footprint.

The project forms part of a broader $5 million transformation of the club's marina and riverfront facilities, helping secure the long-term future of this important community asset.

With a history spanning more than a century, Swan Yacht Club has become one of the most active and community-focused clubs on the Swan River, and the new green space will further strengthen its role as a hub for community activity and recreation.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"This project is about delivering on our election commitments and supporting community spaces that bring people together.

"Clubs like Swan Yacht Club play an important role in their local communities, and upgrades like this help them host more events, welcome more visitors, and continue to grow.

"Transforming a disused slipway into a vibrant riverfront green space is a fantastic outcome for the club and the local community.

"It is a beautiful part of the Swan River, and this new space will create more opportunities for people to enjoy the waterfront and take part in community activities."

As stated by Bicton MLA Lisa O'Malley:

"I am incredibly proud to have delivered on my $150,000 election commitment for a new green space at the Swan Yacht Club which will give even more people a reason to visit and enjoy this incredible riverfront location.

"As the patron of this incredible club, it's fantastic to see this area transformed into a welcoming precinct that can also host markets, music, and community events while also enhancing the natural environment.

"I am sincerely thankful to the Cook Government for supporting this project and to the Swan Yacht Club's general manager Damien Gaspar and commodore Troy Cawthan for working alongside me in delivering this commitment for our community."
