The people of Landsdale now have a vibrant new community space with the official opening of the DordaakKepup Library and Youth Innovation Hub.
DordaakKepup means Place of Living Waters in Whadjuk Noongar language, with the new community hub overlooking the lake at Broadview Park in Landsdale.
The hub will support programs across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), media production, gaming, and community-led activities, providing opportunities to develop new skills, collaborate, and engage with their community.
Dordaak Kepup will provide event and meeting spaces, as well as being a youth-focused facility offering a wide range of spaces and programs to support learning, creativity, and social connection, including:
- recording studio and podcasting room;
- gaming room and virtual reality space;
- multifunctional spaces for events, performances, and workshops;
- kitchen for cooking programs and demonstrations;
- areas for robotics, coding, and design learning;
- meeting rooms and chill-out spaces; and
- library and reading spaces, including facilities for young parents.
The facility is being delivered as part of the Cook Government's strategy to provide quality infrastructure and services across WA.
The Cook Government invested $6.4 million to help deliver this important project for Landsdale, including $380,000 from Lotterywest and $12,000 from the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety to go towards electric vehicle chargers. The City of Wanneroo is investing the remaining $12 million for the project.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"DordaakKepup is an exciting addition to the Landsdale community and a fantastic space for young people to learn and make meaningful connections.
"This purpose-built facility will help nurture the next generation of innovators by giving young people access to cutting-edge technology, creative studios and flexible learning spaces.
"By backing projects that encourage creativity, innovation and engagement, we are investing in the future of our communities across Western Australia."
As stated by Landsdale MLA Daniel Pastorelli:
"This project is a significant milestone for our community, this kind of facility has been talked about for decades - so I am so proud that in partnership with the City of Wanneroo, the WA Labor Government is delivering.
"DordaakKepup provides young people with a place to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and participate in programs that celebrate learning and culture.
"As a local dad, I know how much this means - it provides local residents with a central space for a range of activities that will activate and support the Landsdale community into the future."
As stated by Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken:
"Dordaak Kepup is the culmination of many years of vision, hard work and collaboration and is a powerful symbol of innovation, inclusivity and community spirit.
"With a focus on STEAM education and activities, Dordaak Kepup was designed with our growing youth population in mind, giving young people a place to learn, explore, and connect.
"At the same time, it remains a modern library for everyone. Libraries are trusted places to learn and stay connected, and this facility will support residents of all ages, from children discovering reading to adults learning new skills.
"Thanks to the generous support of the WA Government, we have created an innovative facility that prepares our young people for the jobs of the future and supports lifelong learning."
