- Twenty new apartments designed with accessibility in mind are nearing completion in the Moreton Bay Region
- The 15 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments are built to accommodate people with a disability and seniors who require great levels of accessibility
- It's part of a record $5 billion investment in social and affordable housing – the largest in Queensland's history – to help deliver 13,500 homes
A new social housing complex in Caboolture will within weeks become home for 20 individuals and families.
The complex consists of 15 single bedroom apartments and five two-bedroom apartments, close to shops and other services, Caboolture State School, and the local train station.
The three-storey development is lift-serviced, allowing all homes to be accessible.
15 of the units are designed to a Gold Level of accessibility, and include features such as level thresholds, wider doorways and hallways, and provision for grab rails, making them suitable for people with varying levels of mobility, including older people.
The other five units are designed to Platinum Level and include additional features and clearance spaces, making them particularly suitable for people who mobilise in wheelchairs.
The ground floor also includes carparking for each of the 20 units, along with communal spaces and landscaping.
The homes include individual gated entry spaces, which provide an increased sense of privacy, and are a great space for the clothesline, or for safely storing belongings such as bikes or other large items. This leaves the private patios free to be used as a useful extension of the living space.
The $7.04 million project also supported more than 23 full time equivalent construction jobs.
Another 176 social homes are expected to commence in the region in the next couple of years.
