New Cook Book Serves Up Recipes From Heart

Manningham Council

A new community cookbook is bringing together the favourite recipes of Manningham's senior clubs.

Table Talk celebrates the diverse cultures that shape our community and shares much-loved family dishes with a new generation of home cooks.

The cookbook offers a simple way for community members to share food, stories and traditions around the dinner table.

Many of Manningham's seniors clubs contributed recipes to the book, which was put together by our Healthy Ageing team.

You can download a digital version of the cookbook here or borrow a copy from your local Manningham Whitehorse Library branch or local neighbourhood house.

For Antonietta Flego, of the Doncaster Italian Senior Citizens Club, her recipe for Frittata di Maccheroni brings back fond memories of sunny days at the beach near her hometown of Naples in Italy.

Antonietta, who arrived in Australia with her family days before her 15th birthday, said the frittata was a favourite picnic dish, easy to pack and delicious hot or cold.

"My grandmother used to prepare the dish - you can use spaghetti and whatever is left over in the fridge - salami, cheese, eggs. Then you fry it up in a frying pan and when it's ready you slice it up like a cake. All the children used to eat it after swimming," Antonietta said.

Agnes Hadjipantela, of the Combined Pensioners Association of Bulleen and Templestowe, shared her delicious Greek recipe for Revani Orange Semolina Cake.

Agnes, who came to Australia from Cyprus in 1981, said the cake has been a favourite of her daughter's for more than 30 years, and as a cook for a childcare centre, Agnes has shared it with a new generation of fans.
