The New Town Sporting Precinct has taken a major step forward with the completion of expanded netball courts and upgrades to the bowls green, delivering on a State Government election commitment and the vision of the City of Hobart's 2019 Master Plan.
Stage one of the redevelopment saw the transformation of a third bowling green into two new lit netball courts, now managed by the Southern Tasmanian Netball Association.
Enhancements to the second green include synthetic surrounds and sun protection, improving comfort and usability for players.
The $1.65 million redevelopment was made possible through a $1.5 million contribution from the State Government, $100,000 from the City of Hobart, and additional support from stakeholders.
Further improvements include new pickleball court markings and upgraded amenities for Southern ITF Taekwon-Do.
The City thanks the State Government, Gaetano Palmese for his design work, and all precinct stakeholders for their ongoing collaboration.
