New Director Unveils Five Immersive Shows at Wagga Gallery

Wagga Wagga Art Gallery will introduce its new Art Gallery Director, Megan Monte, with the launch of its Autumn Exhibitions Season at an event on Saturday 28 February.

Previously the inaugural Director of Ngununggula, the Southern Highlands' first regional art gallery, Megan Monte brings extensive experience in curatorial practice, arts leadership, and community engagement.

Megan Monte said "I am thrilled to join the gallery team. It's a privilege to build on the gallery's rich legacy, extraordinary program and to elevate its stature as a cultural landmark through engaging artistic experiences that will enrich Wagga Wagga and captivate visitors from far and wide."

Megan's arrival coincides with Wagga Wagga Art Gallery's Autumn Exhibitions featuring an exceptional line-up of Australian contemporary artists alongside significant works from the National Art Glass Collection:

Insubstantial Love Stories by Todd Fuller explores forgotten and overlooked instances of queer love from Australian history.

Horizons by Jason Sims uses the properties of light and reflection to challenge perception, inviting the viewer to see the world in new ways.

Fluid Presence by Harriet Schwarzrock, uses glass, inert gases, and electricity to form luminous organic structures reflecting the human heart.

Light Trap curated by Drew Halyday, allows visitors to view selected works from the National Art Glass Collection in a darkened setting, with the works illuminated by artificial light.

Look Straight Ahead celebrates the practice of Judi Elliott, highlighting her enduring impact on female glass artists and inspiring appreciation for her craft.

The launch event for these exhibitions will be held in the Main Gallery from 5pm with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Cheryl Penrith OAM, followed by guest speaker Gabriella Bisetto, a leading Australian glass artist and senior lecturer at University of South Australia.

This special event offers the community and art lovers the chance to be among the first to see the new exhibitions, which explore themes of love, perception, and legacy, while meeting the artists and the Gallery's new Director
