New North West Hospital and Health Board appointed

An advocate for vulnerable children, a local government CEO and clinicians are among the members appointed to the new North West Hospital and Health Board.

The new 9-person board includes appointments for terms ranging from two to four years.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D'Ath said the new members had experience across a wide variety of sectors including local government, primary care, medical administration, clinical education, construction, finance and children's advocacy.

"I welcome the 9 new members to the North West Hospital and Health Board," Ms D'Ath said.

"I know these new members will bring their knowledge, experience and leadership to the table to focus on delivering exceptional health care services to North West Queensland residents.

"The new chair, Cheryl Vardon, was the inaugural Chief Executive and Principal Commissioner of the Queensland Family and Child Commission for six years and has a track record in advocating for children.

"Fellow board member David Keenan comes with local government experience in his role as current CEO of the Mount Isa City Council. He was also previously the CEO of the Southern Downs Regional Council for more than five years."

They will be joined by experienced board director and academic Professor Eleanor Milligan and experienced CFO in both the private and not-for-profit sectors Thomas (Bill) Armagnacq.

Cath Brokenborough is the current Executive Lead Indigenous Engagement and Reconciliation with Lendlease Corporation and Linda Ford will bring her experience as a qualified social worker and community welfare worker. Clinicians, Jane McMillan, Dr Mellissa Naidoo and Dr Marco Giuseppin will also bring their skills to the board.
