New NSW Health Minister Tours Bathurst Hospital Revamp

Regional Health Minister Ryan Park visited Bathurst Hospital to meet with staff and tour the facility, following the announcement of the main works contractor and planning approval for the $200 million Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment.

Last week it was announced the Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment is a step closer, with the main works contractor appointed and work set to begin in the coming months.

The $200 million redevelopment will provide patients, staff and carers with access to modern health facilities and expanded healthcare services to meet the needs of Central West communities.

The redevelopment will include:

  • An expanded Emergency Department
  • Expanded Maternity services, including Special Care Nursery
  • A new modern non-acute mental health inpatient unit (Panorama Clinic)
  • Improved inpatient, outpatient and community health services
  • Operating theatres
  • Expanded cardiology services
  • A new paediatrics zone
  • New main entry and cafe

More than 70 additional car parking spaces are planned to be delivered onsite and in surrounding streets, including 46 additional parking spaces at key locations providing a boost to the existing 306 car spaces for staff, patients and visitors. This will support improved access to the new hospital main entry on Mitre Street and the existing hospital entry on Howick Street.

The hospital design has been informed by extensive feedback and consultation with health professionals, staff, patients and Aboriginal community representatives.

The Bathurst community and health staff will soon be invited to drop-in sessions at Bathurst Hospital, where they can meet the project team, view plans and learn more about the redevelopment. Dates and times for the community drop-in sessions will be confirmed in the coming days.

Minister Park concludes a two-day visit to the Western NSW Local Health District meeting with local staff and community representatives in both Orange and Bathurst.

The results from the Bureau of Health Information January to March 2025 Healthcare Quarterly found Western NSW Local Health District as one of the highest performing, with Triage 2 emergency patient treatment commencing on time above the state average.

87.7% of patients across the district who arrived by ambulance were transferred to the emergency department within 30 minutes, which is above the state average.

Overdue planned surgeries reduced from 281 at the end of December 2024 to 236 at the end of March 2025. With a total of 2,628 Planned Surgeries being performed during the quarter, an increase of 4.6 percent on the previous year.
