A major new park has officially opened in Leppington, highlighting the real outcomes a fully functional council can deliver for its community.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun joined NSW Planning Minister Paul Scully to mark the opening, describing the project as a significant investment in one of Southwest Sydney's fastest-growing areas.
The park was constructed by the NSW Government and has been handed over to Liverpool City Council for ongoing care and maintenance.
"Today is a fantastic day for Leppington and for the people of Southwest Sydney," Mayor Mannoun said.
With new homes and families moving into the area, Mayor Mannoun said delivering quality infrastructure is essential to keeping communities liveable.
"This is a good example of how the State Government and local councils can work together to provide the infrastructure that supports everyday life," he said. "Parks like this are central to the health, wellbeing and connection of our community."
Mayor Mannoun said the project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration between local and state government.
"This is what a fully functional council achieves when it works hand-in-hand with the State Government to deliver for its community," he said.
The park forms part of a broader effort to expand open space, with Liverpool City Council currently delivering 13 additional parks in nearby Austral.
Council will invest more than $35 million into parks and recreation in the next financial year, alongside an additional $675,000 for peak-period maintenance and $650,000 for a new neighbourhood-based compliance and presentation model.
"This is about pride in place and making sure that as our city grows, the quality of life grows with it," Mayor Mannoun said.
The park is now open to the public.
