New Service Opens For Women Experiencing Homelessness

  • MercyCare's new supported accommodation now operational
  • Service replaces St Bart's Women's Service
  • Seamless transition to new operator ensures no gap in service

A vital accommodation service for women experiencing homelessness is now up and running with residents already moving into the new facility.

The new service, managed by MercyCare, opened on 30 June, following the closure of St Bart's Women's Service due to a planned site redevelopment.

The new facility is already around half full, with more women set to move in over the coming weeks.

The MercyCare facility provides trauma-informed, secure accommodation and services for up to 27 women.

Importantly, every woman previously staying at St Bart's who expressed interest in continued support has been provided accommodation at either the new service or other accommodation options.

Located in a well-connected Perth metro suburb, the site provides convenient access to public transport and shops, ensuring continuity of care in a stable and supportive environment.

As stated by Homelessness Minister Matthew Swinbourn:

"As we mark Homelessness Week 2025, I want to acknowledge the critical role this service plays in supporting women facing housing insecurity.

"This year's theme, Homelessness Action Now, is a reminder that real change happens when government and community partners work together, and the smooth transition to MercyCare's new service shows what's possible when we act with urgency and compassion to ensure women in crisis receive the dignity, safety, and support they deserve.

"The Cook Government invests $1.8 million each year to fund this essential - part of our $5.8 billion commitment to housing and homelessness services.

"Women in crisis deserve dignity, security, and support, and that's exactly what this transition has delivered."
