Newest Recruits Join Correctional Officer Ranks

The Tasmania Government has welcomed 11 new Correctional Officers, with the latest Recruit School graduating at a ceremony in Hobart.
The latest cohort of recruits includes four women and seven men, aged between 23 and 46, reflecting the diverse backgrounds and experiences that make a good Correctional Officer.
Minister for Justice, Corrections and Rehabilitation, Guy Barnett, congratulated the graduates, the latest in an extensive program of recruitment which is continuing throughout this year.
"Today's graduation marks the culmination of 12 weeks of intensive training, combining classroom-based learning with supervised placements in operational prison environments," Minister Barnett said.
"This comprehensive program ensures we are delivering for our new officers by fully equipping them with the skills, knowledge and professionalism required to succeed in what is a challenging, but highly rewarding career."
Before commencing Recruit School, graduates undertook a rigorous selection process, including psychological and physical assessments and teamwork exercises, designed to test their suitability for this unique profession.
"Graduates bring skills from a wide range of industries, including customer service, security, emergency services, information technology and construction," Minister Barnett said.
"What unites them is their dedication, resilience, professionalism and positive attitude.
"Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, supporting our Correctional Officers to play an important role in maintaining community safety.
"I encourage anyone considering a career change, seeking meaningful work, or wanting to make a difference in their community to consider a career in corrections."
Applications for the next Recruit School are already open through to the end of May.
