JOINT STATEMENT

The brand new Nirimba State Primary School at Caloundra South is ready to welcome 160 foundation students on Day 1, term 1 of 2022.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Minister for Education Grace Grace and Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt today inspected the $75 million school ahead of term starting next week.

"My government is committed to investing in education and ensuring our fastest growing communities have the schools they need," the Premier said.

"Across Queensland we have opened 21 new schools since 2015, with a record breaking $1.3 billion investment.

"This is the fifth new school we have opened on the Sunshine Coast over the last five years including Baringa State Primary School, Baringa State Secondary College, Palmview State Primary School and Palmview State Special School

"There are another 11 new schools to come in 2023 and 2024 thanks to a further $1 billion including another secondary school at Palmview.

"We will always invest in education and the future of our youngest Queenslanders: it's what Labor governments do."

Education Minister Grace Grace said Nirimba State Primary School was one of three new schools opening for the 2022 school year.

"Between them, Nirimba State Primary School, Everleigh State School in Greenbank, and Coomera Special School will welcome around 500 students next Monday," Ms Grace said.

"It's not just great news for families sending their kids to a new world class school either: the construction of these three schools has also supported more than 600 local jobs.

"Our new schools, just like all other schools in Queensland, are ready for a COVID-safe start to the 2022 school year thanks to our comprehensive Back to School plan, which includes mask wearing, ventilation measures, and a dedicated supply of rapid antigen tests."

Member for Caloundra, Jason Hunt MP, said the new Nirimba State Primary School was looking fantastic.

"Stage 1 includes an administration block, resource centre, covered area and kiosk, prep and junior learning areas, music and assembly spaces and sport areas," Mr Hunt said.

"While 160 students will be starting next week, around 1,200 students will be able to attend once all the stages are complete."

Nirimba State Primary School's Foundation Principal Steven Moore said students and staff at the new school were delighted with the classrooms, grounds and facilities.

"It's such an exciting time to be here with this community growing at such a rapid pace with our new school well and truly ready to provide a great education to local families," Mr Moore said.

"There has been a great amount of thought and attention to detail gone into ensuring our school is providing amazing educational opportunities to students of the Nirimba and Banya communities."
