Thirty Nordic ageing and health researchers will gather in Stockholm on 11-12 September 2025 for the SIA joint senior and junior workshop. Hosted by the Aging Research Center (ARC) at Karolinska Institutet, this event brings together established and early-career experts to foster discussion and collaboration on social inequalities in ageing.
The programme features presentations and dialogue on fourteen ongoing junior-led projects, reflecting the diverse and interdisciplinary approaches needed to tackle the complexities of ageing. Group sessions will delve into trends and overlooked issues within Nordic public debates on ageing and later life, while "speed dating" sessions are set to facilitate research exchange visits and future collaborative endeavours. A special panel discussion will provide early-career researchers with valuable insights from experienced scholars, and the event will also serve as a springboard for upcoming joint conference symposia.
Since its foundation in 2015, the research programme Social Inequalities in Ageing (SIA; PI Johan Fritzell) has been dedicated to advancing research on inequalities in ageing and health and promoting academic dialogue and collaboration between the Nordic countries. In 2022, the research programme was continued as a network with a grant from the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte) .
Anchored by a steering group at the Aging Research Center (ARC), the network has become a recognised platform for annual workshops, digital meetings, and ongoing researcher exchanges.
Neda Agahi, one of the workshop's organisers and a key figure at the Aging Research Center, commented on the significance of the upcoming event:

"Bringing together both senior and junior researchers from across the Nordic countries allows us to share new perspectives on social inequalities in ageing and health. This collaborative environment is essential for generating impactful research and building lasting networks that will continue to address challenges in the field."
The SIA network remains committed to nurturing the next generation of scholars through the inclusion of new junior members and by encouraging cross-institutional and international collaboration.
