Nourishing Casey With Home-grown Recipes

A new Nourishing Casey Recipe Book, celebrating the food and cultural stories of Casey's diverse community was launched this week as part of a collaboration between the City of Casey and EACH's (Eastern Access Community Health) Enliven program.

The project, which was funded by the City of Casey, brought Enliven's Food from Home team into Casey Community Hubs to inspire children and parents to grow and make healthy foods at home.

Director of Enliven, Silva Nazaretian, said throughout the project, participants shared their stories and recipes, culminating in the creation of the Nourishing Casey Recipe Book.

"This book has helped strengthen social and intercultural bonds, with 49 people contributing to it representing the Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Afghan, Sri Lankan, Indian, Ukranian and Filipino communities," Ms Nazaretian said.

"It has brought the community together through the sharing of food, culture and stories, and we hope that years from now those stories and traditional dishes will still be part of the Casey community."

City of Casey Deputy Mayor, Cr Michelle Crowther said the project was a great example of the many benefits that could be achieved when communities come together in an open and supportive way.

"At its core, the Nourishing Casey Recipe Book is about promoting access to fresh and affordable food for the wider Casey community, but it is also about belonging,'' Cr Crowther said.

"We are so fortunate that these generous members of our community opened their kitchens, their memories and their cultural traditions to bring this book to life, with the support of Enliven, AMES Australia and Community Hubs Australia."
