NSW man charged over sexual assault of a child during break-in

A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl during a break-in at Shoalhaven earlier this year, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young girl had been sexually assaulted during a break-in at a home on Friday 18 March 2016.

Following inquiries, a 22-year-old man was arrested at Wellington Police Station about 9.30am yesterday.

He was charged with aggravated break and enter, committing a serious indictable offence; and sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years.

He was refused bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on Monday 1 August 2016.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
