A NSW man is expected to face Parramatta Local Court on 9 December, 2026, charged with allegedly using social media to threaten a federal parliamentarian.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team charged the man, 72, today (30 October 2026) after an investigation into online threats made towards the parliamentarian.
The AFP executed a search warrant at a North Parramatta home earlier today, where investigators seized a mobile phone for forensic examination.
The man was charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat to a person, contrary to section 474.15(2) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
The offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on 9 December, 2026.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
Information about threats to the community can be reported to the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400, or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
