NSW police arrest man for alleged threats with spear-gun

A man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly threatened a police officer with a loaded spear-gun in the Shoalhaven yesterday.

Around 2.45pm Tuesday, police were called to a domestic incident at a home on Gowlland Crescent, Callala Bay.

Upon arriving at the scene, police spoke to a number of family members.

A short time after police arrived, a man showed up at the location armed with a spear-gun, a knife and a crowbar.

Police immediately demanded the man drop the weapons, however he ignored the order. An officer drew his firearm and again ordered the man to drop the weapons.

The man, a 24-year-old from Callala Bay, eventually complied with the officer’s request and dropped the spear-gun, knife and crow-bar.

He was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was charged with:

- Two counts of being armed with intent;

- Custody of a loaded spear-gun in a public place; and,

- Custody of offensive weapons in a public place.

Bail refused, he is scheduled to appear in Nowra Local Court today.
