The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) is calling on the Northern Territory Government to reconsider its decision to relocate YISSA from Darwin to Batchelor, warning the move risks weakening the delivery of vital government services.
The CPSU says moving YISSA further from Darwin will make it harder for workers to maintain close connections with local services and communities, undermining trusted support and outcomes for Territorians.
The union says the Government should reconsider their decision to relocate YISSA and instead work with staff, communities and stakeholders to protect service delivery, particularly given Federal Government investment intended to keep YISSA in Darwin.
YISSA provides culturally appropriate short-stay accommodation for Territorians do not have other accommodation options in Darwin, allowing them to access essential government services including healthcare and domestic and family violence prevention support.
