The Northern Territory Police Force acknowledges the findings handed down today by the Coroner regarding the death of Senior Constable First Class Michael Deutrom.
Commissioner Martin Dole APM said the organisation's thoughts remain with Constable Deutrom's family, friends and colleagues.
"This has been a long and difficult process for those closest to Michael, and our thoughts remain with them today," Commissioner Dole said.
The Commissioner also acknowledged the many current and former members of the Northern Territory Police Force who have been affected by Constable Deutrom's death and the subsequent Coronial process.
"This remains a significant and deeply personal matter for many people across our organisation."
"The Northern Territory Police Force acknowledges the Coroner's findings and respects the important role the Coronial process plays in examining the circumstances surrounding a death and identifying opportunities for learning and improvement."
Commissioner Dole said the wellbeing of employees remains a priority for the organisation.
"In the lead-up to the release of the findings, we have put support measures in place for our employees and encouraged anyone who may be affected to access those services," he said.
"Additional wellbeing resources have also been made available to support our people during this period."
"We recognise that today's findings may be difficult for current and former employees, particularly those who knew Michael personally or who were directly affected by the events surrounding his death."
The Northern Territory Police Force will now carefully consider the Coroner's findings and any recommendations arising from the Inquest.
"We will take the time necessary to review the findings properly and determine any actions arising through our established governance processes," Commissioner Dole said.
"It would be inappropriate to comment in detail on individual findings or recommendations while that review is underway."
"What I can say is that our focus remains on supporting our people, acknowledging the findings of the Coroner and ensuring we carefully consider any recommendations."
