The latest housing market figures highlight growing confidence in the Northern Territory economy and property sector.

The median home price in Darwin City has reached new heights of $622,000 and unit prices led the nation for annual growth, rising 18.9 per cent.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government continues expanding housing supply, with residential lot delivery more than doubling and building approvals increasing.

Confidence is returning to the Northern Territory under the Finocchiaro CLP Government, with the latest housing figures showing strong momentum across the NT property market.

According to the latest PropTrack Home Price Index here for May 2026, Darwin is at the top of the charts for monthly growth home prices, and the median home value for all dwellings increased 17.6 per cent ($98,000) over the past 12 months.

Unit prices recorded the strongest annual growth in the country, and while regional NT home values eased slightly in May, they remain 2.3 per cent higher than they were a year ago.

"This strong property market performance reflects growing confidence in our economy and future," Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment Joshua Burgoyne said.

"But this growth must be backed by action - which is why we are increasing land supply to ensure people have the opportunity to get into the market and put down roots here in the NT.

"We are delivering more land, supporting new developments, and helping Territorians enter the market through our $50,000 and $30,000 HomeGrown Territory grants here."

The CLP Government is making strong progress across the housing and land development pipeline, including:

Delivering 334 residential titled lots, more than double the previous year.Increasing building approvals to 579 between March 2025 to March 2026, up from around 400 the year prior.Allocating $4 million in the 2026-27 Budget to progress new residential and industrial land supply in Central Australia and the Barkly.Supporting Territorians into home ownership through 1,431 HomeOwner and FreshStart grants paid or approved for payment.Continuing development of Crown land projects at Holtze, Zuccoli, Northcrest, Kilgariff and private developments at Marrara Gardens, Durack Heights, Humpty Doo.Unlocking the Farrar West development to support future housing growth.

Treasurer and Minister for Housing Construction Bill Yan said the CLP Government would continue driving momentum during its year of growth, certainty, and security.

"Our government is working hard to deliver the land and housing supply needed to provide greater certainty for industry, investors, and Territorians looking to enter the market," Mr Yan said.

"Extending our $50,000 HomeGrown Territory Grant and the $30,000 FreshStart Territory Grant into September 2027 is key to this, so more Territorians can see their dream of home ownership come true.

"These grants are a smart investment in the builders, apprentices, and the wider industry to help rebuild the Territory economy and get more houses built - and that means renters have more choice, especially when many tenants make the move into home ownership."

The Northern Territory Planning Commission's report on infill development is also now complete and is available on the NT Planning Commission website here.

"As a Government, we are working to progress the NT Planning Commission's recommendations and move to support further development in the NT," Mr Burgoyne said.
