NTU Singapore and the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) in the Netherlands are collaborating in healthcare, medical research, and education, bringing together their expertise to tackle pressing health challenges.
The partnership will see both institutions work more closely on research and innovation, while creating opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers to learn from one another and collaborate across borders.
The two institutions will also co-organise seminars, conferences, and other academic activities, creating more spaces for dialogue, idea-sharing, and discovery.
Initial discussions have identified several areas of shared interest, including artificial intelligence in healthcare, regenerative medicine, public health, primary care, and medical education.
The collaboration was formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the NTU campus on 19 March by Professor Ernst Kuipers, NTU Vice President (Research), and Professor Louis Bont, UMC Utrecht Acting Chair of the Executive Board and Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. The signing was witnessed by Her Excellency Anneke Adema, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Singapore, Professor Shirley Ho, NTU Associate Vice President (Humanities, Social Sciences & Research Communication), and Professor Elly Hol, Vice-Dean Research and Innovation, UMC Utrecht.
The partnership builds on months of discussions between researchers and senior leaders from both institutions, and reflects a shared commitment by NTU and UMC Utrecht to advance innovation in healthcare and to work together to address complex global health challenges.
