The 'Six Cities Region' encompassing Newcastle, Wollongong and Greater Sydney is home to around 25 per cent of the Australian population and represents Australia's greatest opportunity for realising transformative, sustainable, and inclusive development in the decades ahead. As drivers of the knowledge economy, and a force for social good, universities have a critical role to play.

The NUW Alliance are excited to host the 'Six Cities Region Launch event' on Wednesday, 5 October to present our new strategic priorities 1) Women; 2) Infrastructure; and 3) Sustainability.
With a geographical footprint which precisely aligns with the Six Cities Region, the NUW Alliance's strategic priorities will focus on support for our research, teaching and student communities and to provide positive social impact in the community at large.
Although our Six Cities geographical location provides a clear focus, NUW Alliance will also work strategically to deliver global impact, leveraging our size and scale.
Professor Marks stated - "Our vision is to unlock and realise the potential of the Six Cities Region and make it a better place for generations to come. That requires partnership on a scale and of a depth the NUW Alliance is ideally suited to deliver. It starts with our First Nations people and evolves through inclusive, purposeful, and genuine collaboration."

Universities bring impartial evidence, deep expertise, agility, and rigour. The consolidation of NSW Government planning and policy development on the spatially defined Six Cities Region – via the Greater Cities Commission – creates a rare and opportune synergy, to achieve focus and purpose in effort. This is a moment we cannot afford to miss in service of our communities.
