NZ Finance Minister, Trans-Tasman Talks on Fuel Security

Australian Treasury

Today I'll host New Zealand Finance Minister Nicola Willis in Brisbane for a bilateral engagement on trade, investment and fuel security.

This is all about coordinating efforts on fuel supply and security in our region, strengthening partnerships and supply chains across the Tasman, and gathering more intelligence on how our industries are dealing with this crisis.

Securing more fuel and strengthening supply chains is in the interest of both Australia and New Zealand, it's a focus of both governments and it will be a big focus of our work today.

We will convene and confer with leaders from some of the industries hardest hit by disruptions to fuel and energy supply chains, including representatives from the aviation, agriculture, food and grocery, and transport sectors.

Minister Willis and I will compare notes on the global economy as we continue to calibrate our forecasts and expectations in the lead up to the May Budget.

We'll also discuss how we can grow the trans‑Tasman Sustainable Aviation Fuel supply chain to attract more investment and strengthen regional fuel security. We will have more to say on low‑carbon liquid fuels as part of the May Budget.

Whether it's liquid fuels or food, medicines or machinery, New Zealand is one of Australia's closest trading partners and we're working together to unlock more investment in growth industries and to strengthen our supply chains.

Our Budget will be focused on resilience and reform, and working closely with our closest partners in the face of growing global uncertainty is an important part of that, particularly as we finalise our forecasts.

Minister Willis and I will also attend a number of ANZAC day events on Saturday in Logan City to pay tribute to those who serve and those who have served, and their selflessness and sacrifice.
