Ocean Film Festival World Tour in Lennox Head: Ballina Shire

Ocean Film Festival World Tour in Lennox Head

Celebrating 10 years of inspiring and educating audiences around the globe, the Ocean Film Festival World Tour is coming to the Lennox Head Cultural Centre on Saturday 4 March 2023.

The tenth-anniversary tour showcases films from independent filmmakers and premiers in Australia before heading to Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, Vanuatu, the USA and the UK.

Festival founder Jemima Robinson explained that when starting the Ocean Film Festival World Tour, she had big dreams: to inspire the world to explore and enjoy our oceans and protect and respect them.

"With a passion for film and all things ocean, I wanted the film festival to become an avenue for promoting ocean conservation and bringing people together to celebrate mother nature," said Ms Robinson.

"Designed to mesmerise and enthral, the Ocean Film Festival World Tour showcases a three-hour celebration of our oceans with sublime footage taken above and below the water's surface. The films feature captivating cinematography, with awe-inspiring underwater scenes and fast-paced wave sequences captured from unbelievable vantage points.

"We are so pleased that local teen and 2023 Ballina Shire Australia Day Environmental Award Winner Marlon Denning will be part of the ensemble of filmmakers. Marlon's film 'The Rock Pool Waltz' explores his lifelong connection with nature and friendship with a cheeky octopus. Marlon's film has been screened worldwide in international film festivals and has won a staggering 15 awards so far.

"With this film festival, we continue to reach new audiences and perhaps inspire emerging filmmakers to share their stories and connection to the ocean."

In just ten years, the film festival has had 771 screenings by 89 independent filmmakers to 325,670 audience members in 14 countries and donated over $40,000 to ocean charities.

"This is an exciting opportunity to attend a world-class, family-friendly event. In the Northern Rivers, we all love and respect the ocean, so the Lennox Head Cultural Centre is an ideal venue to watch these films on the big screen," said Roberta O'Brien, Community Facilities Coordinator, Ballina Shire Council.
