Officer charged - Northern Region 20 September

A former police officer has been charged with several offences, including assault, in the state's north.

Last year, officers commenced an investigation into allegations of an assault relating to a 38-year-old senior constable while he was on duty.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 38-year-old man shortly before 10am yesterday (Monday 19 September 2022).

The man was charged with eight offences including common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, tamper with evidence with intent to mislead judicial tribunal, destroy or damage property, and do act intend to pervert the course of justice.

He was refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Tuesday 20 September 2022).

The officer – who was attached to a Northern Region command at the time – is no longer with the NSW Police Force.
