Work on revitalising the Darwin CBD and State Square continues to roll on with the design of the 90 Bay Carpark released today.
The State Square overhaul is a critical part of the historic $200 million Darwin City Deal, delivered in partnership with the Australian Government and the City of Darwin.
Local business Clouston Associates have completed the design works, with the construction tender expected to be released in April to make these plans come to life.
The 90-Bay Parliamentary Carpark redevelopment will include the removal of the existing car park, reorientating Parliament Lane to enter and exit from the Esplanade and landscaping that aesthetically compliments the Native Landscape Garden atop the State Square Underground Carpark.
The redevelopment will include a generous lawn area and services infrastructure, which can accommodate community events and activities such as job creating festivals.
Pathways will connect Civic and State Square and the Native Landscape Garden atop the Underground Car Park to the Esplanade, with shade from tree canopies where possible and all elements including planting, lighting, furniture and finishes will be integrated seamlessly into the landscaping design.
Other State Square works which are nearing completion is the Chan Building demolition which is going through final stages of removal and will be grassed and opened by the end of May.
