One week left for TCC business grants

Businesses across Townsville City and its fringe areas can now apply for Townsville City Council's City Activation and Jobs Growth Policy's Modernising Buildings grants.

The grants support a wide variety of initiatives which activate the city streets and improve the attractiveness, vibrancy or safety of Townsville City and its fringe areas, improving buildings and shopfront facades, and retrofitting buildings to open them onto the street.

This financial year's grants round is open now and closes 17 August 2023.

Planning and Development Committee chairperson Mark Molachino said the policy had benefited 10 businesses in the last financial year.

"Council is focused on providing world-class liveability to our residents through increasing our level of amenity to match our growing population. One way we can do this is by activating our city streets and helping local business owners make their buildings more attractive, vibrant and safe," Cr Molachino said.

"These projects have injected $5.1 million into the Townsville economy and have provided jobs for local tradespeople.

"As we continue our vision for Townsville to be a connected, lifestyle-driven city we've opened our 2023/24 applications for our City Activation and Jobs Growth Policy's Modernising Buildings grants. This is a competitive process, with focus being given to attractiveness, safety, value to the community, local jobs, retaining and attracting businesses, and works being completed by 30 May 2024.

"If you think your business fits the bill, head to Council's website and apply now for a Modernising Buildings grant."

Applications for Component 3 are now open, and close 17 August 2023. The assessment will be a competitive process with notification to successful applicants taking place soon after the closing date.
