Police from the Far North District have charged 87 people with 256 offences following a five-day operation targeting property crime in the region.
58 adults were charged with 133 offences, while 29 young people were charged with 123 offences.
Officers from Cairns Station General Duties, Tactical Crime Squad, Dog Squad, Property Crime Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, and the Child Protection and Investigation Unit targeted high-risk property, drug and domestic and family violence offenders.
On June 25, officers from the Tactical Crime Squad arrested a 20-year-old Manoora man after he allegedly threatened a man at a Manoora shopping centre and attempted to steal his car keys.
The man was taken into custody nearby a few minutes later.
He was charged with one count of robbery and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 11.
On June 27, officers from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch and Tablelands Child Protection and Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at an Arriga property.
Officers allegedly located quantities of methylamphetamines, cocaine, testosterone, cannabis, cash and a sawn-off shot gun and ammunition.
A 22-year-old Arriga man was charged with two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4 and possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R weapon, and authority required to possess explosives.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on July 1.
Detective Inspector Jason Chetham said the five-day operation is a continuation of usual business for the hard-working frontline police in Cairns.
"Through both high-visibility and covert operations, we are continuing to target offenders causing the most harm to our community," Detective Inspector Chetham said.
"These results show dedication and commitment from our police to make sure the community is, and feels safe.
"We will continue to deploy resources to hotspot areas when needed, to deter and disrupt offending."
