Orange City Council has awarded the tender for the design and construction of the athletics track and field at the Orange Regional Sporting Precinct, continuing the staged delivery of one of regional NSW's largest sporting infrastructure projects.
At its meeting on Tuesday 5 May, Council resolved to award the contract to Polytan Asia Pacific Pty Ltd following a competitive tender process. The contract has been awarded for $4.55 million (excluding GST).
The tender includes both the design and construction of a World Athletics Class 2 certified athletics track and field facility, ensuring the venue meets competition standards and can support community, school and elite level use. The tender price does not include stabilising the sub soil base underneath the track as this treatment will be assessed as part of the design element of the project.

Polytan Asia Pacific has delivered athletics and sports facilities across Australia, including World Athletics certified tracks and national level facilities such as Sydney Olympic Park. Its portfolio includes projects across regional NSW, Queensland and the ACT, and the company is part of SportGroup, one of the world's largest sports surfacing organisations.
Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said awarding the tender reflects the progress being made across the sporting precinct.
"This is another example of the project moving forward and key elements being locked in," Cr Mileto said.
"There is a lot happening across the precinct, and awarding this contract means we can start the detailed work needed to deliver a high-quality athletics facility for the community."
Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Recreation and Culture Policy Committee Tammy Greenhalgh said the athletics facility would deliver long term benefits for young people and athletes across the region.
"A high-quality athletics track gives young athletes the chance to train locally, pursue their goals and compete on facilities that match the standards they'll see elsewhere in the country." Cr Greenhalgh said.
"The athletics track and field will support local clubs and schools, provide opportunities for events, and add to the overall functionality of the precinct as it continues to take shape."
Following contract execution, Polytan will commence final design works, including detailed investigations of site conditions, before construction begins. Completion is expected in early 2027, subject to weather and construction conditions.
The Orange Regional Sporting Precinct is supported by $74.5 million in government funding - $59.5 million from the NSW Government and $15 million from the Australian Government's Growing Regions Program.
