01 April 2026, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, in co-operation with the OSCE Secretariat and Verification Unit of Switzerland's Armed Forces, organized a High-Level Workshop on International Standards and Trends in Conventional Ammunition Management. The event brought together specialists from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan and international experts to assist in improving the ammunition management system.
"This event represents an important milestone within our ongoing co-operation and reflects the long-standing partnership between the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan," said Ambassador Alexey Rogov, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana.
Over three days, participants engaged in structured sessions focused on both national systems and international good practices.
Military and civilian experts from Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom presented their countries' national experiences, offering practical models and lessons learned for improving ammunition management systems.
Working groups then translated these discussions into concrete outputs, identifying technical challenges and formulating targeted recommendations tailored to Kazakhstan's needs.
"This seminar provided a practical platform for discussing current challenges, sharing international experience, and identifying concrete steps to strengthen ammunition management in Kazakhstan," said Jaroslaw Kurek, Project Manager.
The seminar resulted in a clear set of recommendations for improving the ammunition management system. Participants agreed on priority measures, defined the division of responsibilities between national authorities and international partners, and identified areas requiring further support from the OSCE.
The OSCE will continue its co-operation with Kazakhstan to promote long-term security and reliability in the field of ammunition management.
