Representatives from the Hydrometeorology Service and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan discussed best practices in the areas of meteorological data processing and analysis for early warning systems during an OSCE-organized study visit to Darmstadt, Germany, that took place on 14 and 15 October 2026.

The delegation visited the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and the German Weather Service (DWD). At EUMETSAT headquarters, the delegation learned about Satellite Application Facilities (SAF) network and EUMETSAT satellite products for atmospheric monitoring.

"Through this study visit we aim to further strengthen the professional capacities of Turkmen meteorologists in meteorological data processing and the application of modern technologies for early warning systems, while fostering the exchange of best international practices and expertise," said Olivera Zurovac-Kuzman, Economic and Environmental Officer of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.

During the visit to DWD, meteorologists from Turkmenistan had an opportunity to gain practical skills in using Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite images in operational weather forecasting and configuring MTG satellite images and products. Discussions focused on data services, user engagement and support.

The study visit forms part of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat's broader efforts to address environmental and climate challenges, strengthen early warning and promote sustainable environmental management.
