Out-of-touch, heartless Liberals vote down Cost of Living Taskforce

Tasmanian Labor

The Rockliff-Ferguson Liberals have voted down a Cost of Living Taskforce that would have investigated and recommended approaches to relieve the escalating cost of living on Tasmanian families.

With inflation now at 5.8 per cent and wage growth only at 2.8 per cent, the Taskforce would have investigated how to provide relief to more and more Tasmanian families who are doing it tough.

But led by newly minted Community Services Minister Nic Street the Liberals disregarded the need for action.

Mr Street provided a clear example of how out of touch this government is when he stood up and spoke for just 10 of his available 40 minutes before fleeing the Parliamentary Chamber late yesterday.

Rather than taking the opportunity to make a contribution, Liberal Member for Lyons John Tucker sat at the back of the Chamber and laughed.

That's this Liberal Government. Half-hearted and out of touch.
