A physiotherapist who dedicated more than 40 years of his life to improving the health and wellbeing of Western Australians is among those to take top honours at the 2025 WA Excellence in Allied Health Awards.

Last night's ceremony recognised allied health professionals for their outstanding contributions to patient care, spotlighting those who demonstrate excellence and innovation across the health system.

The Lifetime Achievement Honour was awarded to Ian Cooper, former head of Physiotherapy at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, for his profound and lasting impact on allied health in WA.

Ian played a role in establishing some of the first advanced scope physiotherapy services in WA, and although now retired, Ian continues to deliver workshops for university students and holds several volunteer positions in the community.

The Weekend Feeding Team at Perth Children's Hospital was awarded the Allied Health Team of the Year award for demonstrating clinical excellence as a team.

The announcement coincides with Allied Health Professions Day, an annual global event celebrating the contribution of allied health professionals across more than 30 professions.
