P1 driver caught 163km/h - Prospect

Police have charged a P1 Provisional driver after he was detected allegedly speeding in Sydney's west last week, 83km/h above the limit.

About 8.50pm on Friday 5 July 2021, officers attached to Cumberland Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement along the Great Western Highway, Prospect, when they detected a silver BMW sedan allegedly travelling at 163km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The 17-year-old male driver from Merrylands was stopped further down the Great Western Highway.

He provided a P1 licence – which had only been issued 12 days prior to the arrest – which restricts him to a maximum of 90km/h.

He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for drive speed dangerous, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h.

The driver's provisional P1 licence was suspended on the spot; however, the car could not be seized as he was not the legal owner.

The teen will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 3 of August 2021.
