Parliament paves way to greater collaboration between Hobart councils

Today's passing by the House of Assembly of the Greater Hobart Bill is an exciting step forward in fostering greater collaboration between urban councils.

The legislation will create a strategic path forward for the Greater Hobart area and facilitate the implementation of the Hobart City Deal and its many exciting components.

The Bill has been developed to provide a framework to support collaborative decision making between the Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough councils and the Tasmanian Government.

The Greater Hobart Bill will allow the Tasmanian Government and urban councils to capitalise on the many exciting possibilities on the horizon for our capital city, while also effectively managing and planning for pressures our city faces as it grows.

The Government believes the Act will lead to better outcomes for residents in Southern Tasmania.
